Aim


The aim of this trip is to take students to visit The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and two other attractions of their choice. If an overnight stay can be incorporated, then this visit could be the outcome of the Enterprise activity (fund raising) and could therefore also be underpinned with WO.

1. Preliminary work


Research and Planning Activities
The following could be undertaken by different groups/pairs of students who then feed back to the whole class.
a. Planning the route; working out the best method of travel.
b. Investigating accommodation.
c. Drawing up a shortlist of other attractions that could be visited within the time limit.

The following will need to be done by the teacher.
a. Contact Local MP (most are able to arrange tours of the Commons).
b. Discuss with the students a shortlist of five questions about politics and political issues that they would like to have their MP's/guide's opinion on.
c. Health and Safety checks.
d. Letters of Consent.

2. Suggestions for post visit activities


a. Group discussion / debrief session. What was learnt?
b. Presentations about the trip or aspects of it.
c. Producing a written report / travelogue / leaflet about the trip, or aspects of it.
