Aim


To generate an understanding of the local environment and encourage students to create and implement a plan which will benefit the school and the local community.

Activities

PSE day

  • Presentation on the principles of Agenda 21 by a representative of Communities First.
  • Divide students into groups for a brainstorming session on possible means of improving the environment of the school and the local community.
  • Outline the cost and benefits of each possible option and discuss them with a member of staff.
  • Decide on the best option, outline the aims, and create a plan of action, including the resources/equipment/skills that will be required.
  • Define the responsibilities of each member of the group and decide on a timetable forformal meetings.

Follow-up

During the following three weeks:

  • implement the plan
  • hold meeting with member of staff to discuss and check progress
  • adapt the action plan as necessary.

Final stage

  • Presentation to the Year group.
  • Formal evaluation.
