Participation in the Citizen Foundation competition.This entails organising a 'House of Commons' debate on a contemporary issue.

Preparatory work

  • Research the structure of a 'Commons' debate.
  • Select a debate topic. This year's topic: the pros and cons of ASBOs. This arose directly out of a classroom discussion where most of the students expressed fear for their safety when walking the streets of Wrexham in the evenings.
  • Research by students on ASBOs. [Opportunity for C3.2; C3.3.]

Action

  • Students arranged into Government and Opposition.
  • Debate held in School Theatre, arranged like the 'Commons'. [Preparation for this provided an opportunity for C3.1a.]
  • Professional film company hired to film the debate  20 min (for evidence).
