Key Skills within the Welsh Baccalaureate

November 22nd 2006
Novotel, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff

In his introduction to this training day, Peter Davies focused on how the key skills requirement ensured students had a common set of experiences. These skills were transferable skills, which would be important throughout life. How were they to be developed in a meaningful way? The WBQ team aimed to provide an open system where centres could develop their own ways of delivering them.

'Real' portfolios were  used to illustrate the standard required at the three levels. Participants were then be invited to consider how the key skills could be developed through their centre's WBQ programme, and evidence collected and presented in portfolios.

Delegates then divided into three groups for workshops run by the different awarding bodies - WJEC, City and Guilds, OCR, EdExcel.

They came together again at the end of the day to hear about a wide range of support available to centres. This talk was given by Dr Cheryl Morgan (KSSPC).
