Students
In Summer 2005, five students successfully completed the Advanced WBQ out of the initial group of fourteen which started the course in 2003.  All those successfully completing the WBQ Advanced Diploma received firm offers from HE (although one student decided not to take up a place last September).

Currently some fourteen General Education (8 Pontypridd; 6 Aberdare) and seven Health and Social Care students are on course to complete their two year programme in Summer 2006.

In 2005, there was an expansion in student numbers:  Public Services 50 (40 Pontypridd;10 Aberdare); Business 17 (10 Pontypridd; 7 Aberdare); General Education 18 (10 Pontypridd; 8 Aberdare).

All these students are following a two year programme, although it is not expected all will complete the course.  Some are expected to end their involvement with the WBQ in Summer 2006, at the end of the first year.

Of special note...

The college has robust systems in place to ensure WBQ students meet the Key Skills requirements. The college has 'accredited centre' status with Edexcel.

Within each course the Individual Investigation arises from the programme area or from specific activities undertaken as part of the WBQ programme.

In the college, the WBQ programmes for vocational students are embedded within their courses.  This approach helps the students see the relevance of what they are doing. For students following General Education programmes, specific WBQ courses have been devised.

WBQ programmes are allowed to arise naturally from the vocational courses where possible.  This approach also facilitates the successful delivery of the Key Skills within these programmes.
