This lesson is about the Second World War. Between 1939 and 1945, Britain was at war with Germany. The German leader, Adolf Hitler, wanted more space for his people to live in, so he had sent his armies to take over other countries in Europe such as France, Belgium and Poland.

Huge numbers of people were killed in fighting across Europe, and the next place he wanted to take over was Britain. German aeroplanes bombed the big cities in the United Kingdom, destroying thousands of homes, and killing many people.

In this lesson you will find out what was done to save as many people as possible from the horrors of the bombing raids. You will think about how these people would have felt and discover how many started new and very different lives.
