This activity is designed for pupils to think about and investigate shelters using a set of 11 photographs. It should help pupils when they are designing and making their own structure for a specific purpose. Pupils should try to answer questions for each photograph.

Teachers should try and encourage pupils to use some of the following words and concepts: kiosk, stable, hut, framework, material, tube, rigid, section, waterproof, beam, bracket, horizontal, vertical, bus shelters, playground shelters, tents, gazebos, canopies and umbrellas.

Teachers may have to discuss and explain some of the words and concepts above to the pupils.
