Summary

This interactive lesson provides a simple introduction to the parts of the human body. The pages show different parts of the human body and ask the pupils to choose the correct label from a given selection. A subsequent activity asks the pupils to drag the labels to identify the correct parts of a human body, while the final page provides a jigsaw-type activity where the pupils can drag pictures of parts of the human body into the correct places.

The entire activity can be completed by the pupils highlighting, clicking on or dragging objects within the activity.

Suitable for

Year 1

Using a non-interactive whiteboard

All pages in this activity require a mouse action, either clicking or clicking and dragging. It is ideal for use on an electronic whiteboard. If no whiteboard is available, the activity can be completed using either a PC and mouse or a remote mouse attached to the projector if available.

Prior learning required

None

Aims and objectives

Pupils should know the names of the main parts of the body.

Timings

The entire activity should take approximately 20 minutes. The first pages, selecting the correct label, would take 5 to 10 minutes. The labelling of the body would take a further 5 minutes, as would the jigsaw activity.

Suggestions for group activities

A picture of a body could be pieced together as a jigsaw and labelled when stuck together.

Suggestions for differentiation

Differentiation would be provided through the amount of support given.

Further activities

Pupils could look at other parts of the body (elbow, knee). These could be labelled on the whole body diagram using a whiteboard pen. Pupils should look at the similarities between themselves and other pupils.
