5. The Torah Scrolls and Yad

The Torah is the Jewish holy book.  It is so important because it contains God’s words.  The Torah teaches the Jews how God wants them to live.  The Torah scrolls are written in Hebrew.

A passage from the Torah scrolls is read during the service in the synagogue.  The scrolls are so precious that the Jews will never touch them with their hand.  Instead they use a silver pointer called a Yad when they read the scrolls to make sure that they do not lose their place.  When you read aloud do you sometimes use your finger as a pointer so as not to lose your place?
