9.  The clocks

In the mosque, there are six clock faces.  These are not real clocks that work.  The first five clock faces show the five times of prayer each day.  The sixth clock face shows the time of the Friday afternoon service.

The main language of Islam is Arabic.  Arabic is written from right to left.  This is backwards to English and Welsh which are read from left to right.  The order is:

2
1
4
3
6
5

1. Prayers before dawn
2. Prayers just after midday
3. Mid afternoon prayers
4. Prayers after sun set
5. Prayers after dark
6. The time of the Friday afternoon service - Juma (the time   for this week has not yet been put on the clock).
The picture of these clocks in the mosque was taken in the middle of December.  Note that the hands of the clock will be changed throughout the year, as the time of dawn, sunset etc. changes throughout the year.
