Muslims do not have to pray in the mosque, although it
is considered better that they do. They can pray anywhere.
When it is time to pray, they can stop what they are doing, put down a
prayer mat and pray on this mat. The prayer mat provides a clean
space. Prayer mats can be of different colours. They usually
have geometrical patterns on them and a picture of a mosque. Sometimes
they have a compass on them so the worshipper can find the direction of
Makkah. The prayer mat in the picture is the one used by the imam
in the Cardiff mosque as he stands in front of the Mihrab to lead the prayers. |
