The Khanda is the symbol of Sikhism. You will find it in several places in the gurdwara. The Khanda is on the orange flag outside the gurdwara. In the Bhatra gurdwara in Cardiff the symbol of the Khanda is found above the entrance to the gurdwara. There are also metal Khandas in front of the Guru Granth Sahib and Khandas sewn onto some of the beautiful cloths which cover the manji (stool for the Guru Granth Sahib). There are three parts to the symbol. On the inside is the Khanda itself. It is a double-edged sword. In the middle is a circle. This shows that God is eternal - he has no beginning or end. On the outside are two swords which represent that Sikhs should always defend the truth. |
