Cwm
Rhondda
Anyone who ever visited Cardiff Arms Park back in the heady
days of Welsh Rugby, back in the time of, and even before players
like Gareth Edwards and Barry John, would have found the singing was often even
better than the rugby. Men who were raised in the chapel
tradition would gather together on the terraces and in no time at
all would lift their voices and fill the stadium with the hymns
that they knew and loved so well.
Although it appears that the fans these days don't have such a
great repertoire, the richness of the Welsh voices remains. Cwm
Rhondda, the favourite hymn from the glory years can still be
heard ringing around the new Millennium Stadium. Do you know,
there is even a baker's shop named after the hymn. You can visit
the shop in St Mary's Street, about five minutes walk from the
stadium's main entrance.
