Introduction

This lesson provides the opportunity to respond practically and imaginatively to the work of Welsh artists, principally that of Sir Kyffin Williams R.A. Pupils will explore and experiment with a variety of drawing and painting techniques: use of line, tone, colour and shape. They will experiment with the methods used by the artist, in particular, by investigating the depiction of the artist in a cartoon-style self-portrait. Pupils will also compare the work of Sir Kyffin Williams with that of John Hughes of Pontypridd. They will investigate how the artists create a cartoon-style caricature on canvas or in clay, and try to emulate their styles.
