Objectives

1 - To insert capital letters and full stops correctly

2 - To discuss use of the computer to edit work

3 - To use the shift key to insert upper case

4 - To find the full stop key

Outline of activity

The teacher will need to insert a passage from a piece of text the children are familiar with. The teacher leaves out all the capital letters and full stops to discuss with the children where they should be inserted. The teacher can then reinforce the need to use the shift button for upper case, and show where the full stop key is. Pupils can then come up to the whiteboard or computer and correct the passage.

Plenary

Read through the corrected piece and discuss if it is now correct and makes sense. Discuss how effective the children felt correcting the work was on the computer compared to using pen and paper.
