Thinking About Sounds and Pictures

Thinking about sounds   Classroom Activity

Music is often used to emphasise a particular character in a film or in an opera. This is called their theme or motif, a good example of which is the sinister music that accompanies the character Darth Vader in the Star Wars films.

What would your musical motif sound like?

We often associate certain sounds with particular events, such as thunder with lightning or ringing with a telephone.

What other sounds and images can you think of that link together?

Sound can confuse us. What would you think if a dog started meowing or your friend started honking like a car horn?

How many other sounds are there that could confuse us and make us think differently about what we're looking at?
