Taking Photographs

Introduction    Holding Your Camera    Considering Viewpoint
Simple Animation    Using the Camera

Digital Cameras are very expensive. It's important to remember that when you're using a camera handle it carefully. Always wear your cameras wrist or neck strap, to keep the equipment secure.

You may have used a digital camera before. If you have, you might have noticed that there are two different ways that we can hold, or what we call orientate our cameras.

Look at the first picture - do you know what this type of picture orientation is called?

Look at the second picture - do you know what this type of picture orientation is called?

Usually when we take pictures, we have to choose carefully which orientation to use. How would you decide which one to use?

Which of these two orientations match the pictures you see on a television screen?

As we're making movies, for this particular project we're going to take all our pictures using the horizontal orientation. This means your final movie will be the same shape as a television picture.
