Taking Photographs

Introduction    Holding Your Camera    Considering Viewpoint
Simple Animation    Using the Camera

Viewpoint is the way we position our camera in relation to the subject we are photographing. It is a good idea to use a variety of viewpoints within any photographic project. Here are some viewpoints to consider:

1. A Persons or an Eye-Level Viewpoint

We often take photographs using an eye-level viewpoint, as this is how we're used to seeing the world. Take some photographs from this viewpoint, but try being creative and using some of the other viewpoints suggested.

2. A Birds-Eye Viewpoint

The birds-eye viewpoint positions us high above looking down over our subject.

Imagine you were a bird flying though the sky, what would the world look like?

3. A Worms-Eye Viewpoint

The worms-eye viewpoint positions us very low, looking up or straight at our subject.

Imagine you were a worm crawling on the ground, what would the world look like?

Use the Worksheet provided to help manage your shoot. Remember, take plenty of well considered pictures, you will need lots of great images to choose from for your final project.
