Ever since Victorian times electricity has been important in our lives. Most of the electricity we use in Britain is made by burning fossil fuels such as gas, oil and coal to create energy from the heat. When these fuels are burnt gases are produced that pollute the atmosphere and cause global climate change.
The government has set a target for the country to increase the amount of electricity that is produced by using "green" sources such as wave and wind power. These sources of electricity are good for the environment because they do not produce pollution but they also affect the landscape. Wales is a windy place and an ideal site for wind turbines to make electricity.
However, many people are opposed to building them in the Welsh countryside
because the beautiful landscape and views would be ruined. One solution
is to build offshore wind farms in the sea.
