
This activity is designed for pupils to think about and investigate bread and sandwiches using photographs and teacher-led discussion. It should help pupils to design and make their own bread and/or sandwiches. Pupils should answer questions about each photograph.
Teachers should try and encourage pupils to use some of the following words and concepts: granary, wholemeal, sesame, poppy seed, chapatti, soda, pitta, bagel, samosa, flavoured, sweet, savoury, ingredients, shaping, mixing, topping, white, brown, kneading, proving, baking, cooking method, grilling, boiling, frying, glazing, yeast, wheat, grain, flour, dough, crust, rise, texture, doughy, crisp, chewy, yeasty, stretchy, elastic, hygiene, bacteria, mould, decay and food poisoning.
Teachers may have to discuss and explain some of the words and concepts above.
