While some pupils grasp the concept of apostrophes relatively easily, others seem totally bewildered. Their subsequent work follows the principle that if in doubt they should use an apostrophe regardless.
These activities should illustrate the function of the apostrophe and allow pupils to grasp the concept relatively quickly, allowing more time to develop the creative side of pupils' work.
Aims:
- to develop an understanding of the use of the apostrophe
- to correctly use apostrophes for contraction
- to correctly use apostrophes to show possession
