Feeding relationships

By the end of this lesson students should:

  • understand that organisms obtain energy from food
  • understand the feeding relationships between organisms in the environment
  • know the meaning of the terms "producers", "consumers" and "decomposers"
  • know that food webs are several interconnected food chains
  • know the difference between pyramids of numbers and pyramids of biomass

This lesson explains the feeding relationships between organisms.

The purpose of the resource is to give students the appropriate knowledge and understanding of feeding relationships required for KS4. The lesson begins with an explanation of terms and develops their understanding of food chains, food webs, pyramids of numbers and pyramids of biomass.

This lesson meets the first three statements of the national curriculum KS4 programme of study for life processes and living things (5 - Living things in their environment, energy and nutrient transfer). The interactive activities within the lesson can be used for assessment or reinforcement.
