| This lesson explores the forces at work when a vehicle travels down a ramp. You will be able to alter the angle of the ramp and measure the speed at which the toy car travels down the slope after being released. All things are pulled to the centre of the Earth by gravity so when a toy car moves down a slope, part of its movement is vertically downwards. As the slope of the ramp increases so does the effect of the vertical force (gravity). Eventually the car will come to a rest. This is because another force is at work: friction. By changing the surface of the ramp you will be able to observe and measure the effect of this force. |
