These men and women had titles, like Earl or Lord. They owned
large amounts of land and were very wealthy and powerful. Not many
of them lived in Wales.
Gentry
Sometimes these men had the title "sir" and were the heads of
families with money. The income from their land might be about
£50 a year. They had less land than the aristocracy, but still
quite a lot – perhaps a few hundred acres.
Yeomen
These were very similar to the gentry but they usually had less
land and so less money.
Craftsmen
They had learnt a trade or skill for several years before
running their own business. They could be as well off as the
yeomen, but this was uncommon. Like many of the yeomen they had to
work to make their money.
The poor
The poor had no land and worked for others as servants to earn
enough food to stay alive. Many poor people had no work and so
depended on charity to survive.

of society are they?
