Session 2.9 Working with change

Aim:

To explore change and to explore the implications of embedding
e-learning in an organisation.

Objectives:

By the end of the session you will have:

  • identified issues of working with change and change management
  • investigated tools for approaching and managing change
  • identified some implications of embedding e-learning in your organisation
  • identified action points to discuss with your management.

Resources:

You will need:

  • a computer
  • your E-Guides USB memory stick
  • your Reflective log
  • Flip chart and pens (red, blue, green, yellow, black and one other colour/ballpoint pen)
  • Coloured paper (for hats).

Time allocated:

45 minutes

Task:

  1. In this task you will explore how you can work with change in your organisation to enable e-learning to take place. Your trainer will show you a brief PowerPoint® presentation on approaches to working with change and ask you to form groups of six. For further information on the approaches presented please read the document Exploring change in an organisation (10 minutes).

  2. Complete the Activity: Embedding e-learning in your organisation:
      1. Working individually, produce a short paragraph/rough illustration on a piece of paper to show the ‘Future Perfect’  - the time when change has been successfully implemented (10 minutes).

      2. In groups of six, use Edward de Bono’s ‘Six Hats’ technique to express different views on e-learning in your organisation. Record these views on flipchart, using a pen to match the colour of your hat (15 minutes).
  1. Merge with your online learning group and discuss whether you have found these tools useful, and which other tools listed in Exploring change in an organisation you might like to try in your organisation. Share your illustration of Future Perfect. You may wish to agree in your group to choose one tool each and trial it in your organisation between Day 2 and Day 3 (10 minutes).

For future action:

Identify a senior manager in your organisation who is responsible for the development of e-learning. Together with the senior manager, explore how the implementation of e-learning can contribute to your organisation’s business plan/strategic plan and how it can contribute to effective practice. Explore how the E-Guides training programme can help your organisation to achieve that ‘Future Perfect’ state.
