Introduction

This KS1-KS2 ICT lesson introduces pupils to the computer keyboard. The activities are intended to stimulate and supplement practical activities. The pupils will develop an understanding of the names of keys in the Starter activity; the focus is on the Space bar, Enter, Shift, Tab, Caps Lock, Backspace and letter keys. The letter keys have the option to be displayed in lower and upper case.

In the Main session, pupils are introduced to the function of the keys. This should be done as a teacher or pupil demonstration activity, with the class given the opportunity to practise at their own computer.

The Plenary activity gives the pupils a chance to evaluate what they have learned.

The lesson teaches pupils the functions of the main keys on the keyboard. This knowledge is the basis for development of skills in "Communicating and handling information" and "Modelling".
