Geographical Association
Provides links to a number of important UK sites, both University. organisational and LEA

Geography Network
Contains a large number of map programmes, using the interactive ArcExplorer mapping application. The system can be searched easily and includes a large amount of downloadable data.

Geography World
The site is maintained by a single teacher in the USA. It is an example of what one teacher can achieve. It is oriented towards the needs of the teacher in the classroom. It operates as a ‘search and log’ structure that gives access to specialist sites that he uses in his teaching at Lakeland High School in Pennsylvania. He also includes a section of ‘games’, quizzes, puzzles and trivia that are usable.

National Geographic
A well-known site that does offer useful material for the geography teacher. It is very large, but easily navigable. There is a section specifically for teachers [accessible from the home page] which is helpful. It contains lesson plans, ‘on line’ maps, workbooks and overheads, which can be downloaded or used ‘on-line’. It is culturally American in terms of curriculum materials, but they are easily adaptable to a UK context, particularly in the field of background material and lesson enrichment.

Royal Geographical Society
A well-known site that includes an education subset. Within that subset are sites related to Teaching Geography and Education Resources [the latter is new and still under construction].

Yahoo Geography
Yahoo maintains a small site that gives access to a number of websites, both in UK and abroad, that store teaching materials that can be downloaded.
