Association des Bibliophiles Universels
This site contains a large number of literary texts that can be downloaded. It also offers access to extensive dictionary facilities on line.

Athena
The site is based in Switzerland and is relatively new and still growing. It is a large search engine with literary text only. A good starting point.

Biblionet
One of a series of sites that operates on line in the realm of the European literature. Mirror image sites exist for Spanish, German, Greek and Russian literature.

ClicNet
A French language site maintained in the USA. It is primarily a catalogue, but is a good starting point for searching other links.

Answerconnect French Resources
A listing of resources relating to France and its diverse cultures.

French Versification
A useful detailed analysis of the systems of versification used in the French language, developed by the University of Exeter.

Gallica
Site maintained by the Bibliotheque Nationale de France. The largest French literary text site on the Web. It is claimed that the site contains 3 million pages. The amount of material is simply awesome as one would expect from a government maintained site, yet it loads surprisingly quickly. It also carries numerous ‘critiques’ filed under ‘Themes’ which are very useful for A level study, particularly in defining the various ‘genres’ in French Literature succinctly.

Les Poètes du XIXe siècle
A site dedicated to the 19th Century poets. It is divided into a number of sub-sites that reflect various movements – Romanticism, Symbolism etc., which in turn give access to specific writers. They carry a welcome page that gives a simple literary guide to the period/school of poetry or writer. Other sub-sites are devoted to specific poets such as Baudelaire, Verlaine, Rimbaud etc. It also carries a limited amount of literary comment.

The ARTFL Project
The site contains a major collection of nearly 2000 French Literary texts, many with only restricted access to subscribers. However it carries a major reference section that is open to the public. This includes dictionary [Le Tresor de la Langue Francaise, which is on line to the public] and grammar facilities.
