Abstract poetry displayOutline of the activity
The class were investigating abstract nouns adjectives. They listened to a range of poems written by children and then created their own poems with an abstract noun as its theme. They used a DTP package to draft and redraft their poems and enhance the presentation of their work.

Skills Covered
The children learnt how to use a desk top publishing package to present their work effectively. They learnt how to alter font style, size and colour. They added clipart, borders and background fill effects. They were able to save, retrieve, edit and print their work. They were able to plan, draft and improve their work using ICT. They discussed and evaluated their own and others writing.

Rationale
By using the DTP package, pupils were able to experiment with the language they used and the presentation of their poems.

Result
The children created a range of well presented, lively, creative poems showing effective use of language. The poems were used to create an attractive class display and later included in a class poetry anthology.
