Face food collageOutline of the activity
The children were studying the topic of food and the teacher wanted to generate some art and computer work from this. The children printed out pictures of food from a dictionary CD ROM and then stuck these together to make a face. They typed their names in using the ‘shift’ key to get a capital letter. They next practised clicking and dragging to change the font size, type and colour.

Skills Covered
Some of the children were able to print independently and practise using the scanner. Others could develop mouse skills and simple clicking to select information. This activity also lent itself to the development of speaking and listening skills as well as the motor skills required to cut and stick the pictures.

Rationale
This type of activity is useful as it allows the children to enjoy ICT within the context of a familiar topic. The children can see how technology can be used for a range of purposes.

Result
This is an example of a final collage which has been scanned in to the computer.
