BoyOutline of the activity
Children were being introduced to the human body and new vocabulary about body parts. The activities involved building human bodies and then labelling them using both pencil and paper and computer methods. Children progress to surveying the class for eye colour and recording this information in their own graphs and creating a graph using the Starting Graph software.

Skills Covered
The children used a range of ICT skills during this activity. Much of the work involved fundamental mouse control skills such as drag and drop and double clicking. The simplicity of the programs used added much to the lesson as the children could work independently at the computer.

Rationale
The activity involved children learning about the similarities and differences of the human body. They understood that some things were shared by all (such as head and eyes) whereas some things varied – eye colour, height and hand size. The graph work reinforced these concepts.

Result
The children learned about the names and location of body parts. They used important mouse control skills such as the double click and dragging and dropping. The computer work supported and extended the pencil work they had completed. The children learned of the use of tables to record their information and some linked the information in the table to the pictorial representations in their graphs.
