How was it used?

My teaching aim was to use a number of starters and plenary activities that would get students involved and interested in their work, especially using elements of competition between groups and pairs.

I studied the schemes of work and found areas where interactive resources could be implemented successfully.

Activities are taken from Number areas of the curriculum and are aimed at KS3 classes.

Impact and Outcomes

Visual impact is high – students have a clear visual image of what they have to do ensuring a clearer understanding. Teaching and learning is more effective.

Flipchart has a strong questioning and discussion element, resulting in a greater element of independent learning for the students. The project has benefited the learners in my classes by getting them more involved with their own learning, becoming more enthusiastic mathematicians.

Inviting students to the IWB or giving them a wireless tablet to write on promotes more positive attitudes (in particular boys) as they like working with the technology.

Creating positive competition has had an encouraging effect on most learners, in particular boys!

Lesson Learnt

Introducing a competition element into lessons gets boys, who would usually be the hardest to reach, engaged.
