How was it used?
The resource was used as a main activity for pupils to investigate the relationship between enlargements and area.
The lesson was set in a computer suite with an IWB and computers for pupils to work on in pairs.
Impact and Outcomes
- Pupils were engaged and motivated to work. They enjoyed the opportunity to have a ‘hands on’ experience with the resource whether it was using their own computer or at the front using the IWB.
- This activity had a positive effect on the more challenging boys as the more visual element of the work appealed to them. They also enjoyed the opportunity to have a go with the IWB.
- The pupils worked well in small groups, often without direct supervision. They collaborated effectively, listening to each other's opinions and points of view.
- Pupils were sensitive to others and used constructive critisism.
- Pupils were enthusiastic and enjoyed the opportunity to be active participants in the lesson
- There were opportunities for pupils to develop their thinking, communication and problem solving skills.
- The visual and kinaesthetic aspect of the resource allowed pupils to sustain attention on their learning.
- The use of mini whiteboards ensured that all pupils could participate and all pupils ‘had’ to make a final decision.
- Pupils used and developed their numeracy skills to calculate areas of shapes and to find the relationship between enlargements and areas.
Learner Feedback
