How was it used?

This unit along with the other units in the series forms the spine of the school’s scheme of work for Welsh 2nd language. Each activity has been blended with resources already available in the school. Extra resources based on the Bwyd unit were also created to reinforce learning away from the Interactive White Board (IWB) and also to encourage group work/collaboration and promote greater use and pronunciation of correct vocabulary.

The unit is suitably differentiated to plan work at appropriate levels for all abilities allowing all pupils to achieve success. Work within the unit begins at a level that allows pupils to build on what they already know/previous experiences. Extra resource were created to ensure that aspects of the skills framework were addressed in particular Developing Thinking, Assessment for Learning and Developing Communication.

Impact and Outcomes

Learner Feedback

I’m very impressed that my child can come home and show me what they have been learning in school that day. Their Welsh is coming on tremendously.

I liked playing the games – it makes the lessons more fun.

Lessons learnt

Allowing the children to hear different voices speaking Welsh other than my own is a great bonus. It has also helped many of us throughout the school, who aren’t Welsh speakers, with correct pronunciation.
