The resource includes:
Why is food important?
The first activity develops the children’s thinking skills by getting them to rank ideas about why food might be important to us.
Investigating food
Children find out about the different food groups:
They then evaluate their learning by sorting food into the different groups.
Planning the recipes
The children have a choice of 6 recipes. They can use the clickable graph to select the class favourite and print out the recipe of choice.
Mini cartoon clips show that it is important to keep clean before cooking. A large set of scales and a measuring jug demonstrate what to look for when measuring out the ingredients. The screen can be printed to use as a reference when the cooking begins.
Making the recipes
Download and watch children making each of these recipes. Use the video guides along with the recipe cards and sequencing cards to plan the process/method to be used.
Evaluate the recipes
Sequence pictures to review the stages used in following each recipe and then evaluate the finished product.
