NGfL Cymru
The National Grid for Learning Cymru (NGfL Cymru) is managed by WJEC on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government and from 1 June 2007 NGfL Cymru has been given an enhanced remit to develop its library of interactive resources for teachers and learners at all levels.
It consists of nearly 3,000 high quality downloadable educational resources which support all Key Stages of the Curriculum, from Early Years to Post 16. Many of the resources are interactive, and all have been produced by practising teachers. It has a specific remit to:
- provide a single point of reference to sources and resources throughout Wales and from further afield;
- provide schools and colleges in Wales with easy, free access to high quality curriculum content in a range of digital formats;
- support teaching in the Welsh language and to promote the Welsh dimension in teaching and learning;
- assist teachers in the task of raising standards of learning through the application of ICT in teaching and learning
The Audience for NGfL Cymru
The bilingual services provided by NGfL Cymru will be aimed at teachers in Primary, Secondary and Special Schools, and Colleges in Wales. As the content of the portal and websites within it grow, its relevance will extend to teachers in training, local authority support staff, pupils and their parents.
Site Guide
The National Grid for Learning Cymru website provides schools in Wales with a range of bilingual services that include:
Good Practice – Originally a project involving a consortium of Welsh LEAs, which identified good practice in ICT in Key Stage 1 & 2 classrooms. This resulted in an excellent website that was managed by Caerphilly CBC on behalf of the consortium. The site has been absorbed into NGfL Cymru where it will be developed further.
Teaching Resources (VTC Cymru) - The Virtual Teachers’ Centre Cymru is at the heart of NGfL Cymru and provides access to teaching and learning materials, and links to high quality curriculum sites on the Internet.
Learning Communities – This area of NGfL Cymru will provide educational organisations, associations, teacher groups and other educational professions with their own dedicated spaces. Where applicable these will include publicly available information as well as secure areas for members.
Schools in Wales - This is the definitive database of all types of schools and colleges in Wales. Complete with contact information that includes email addresses, it will build to include school websites.
Learning Country - Here is the digital guide to websites in Wales and approved ‘primary source material’ sites that can be used to support teaching and learning.
National Initiatives - A listing of initiatives that are happening Wales wide.
Parents - Useful links to help parents support their children and their learning.
