Outline of the activity
Children design and make a customised tube style pencil case. The children use a computer art package such as Colour magic to produce the final design print on to heat transfer paper which is transferred to the fabric and the children then finish the product adding a drawstring to allow access.

Skills Covered
Children developed measuring and cutting skills to produce a template for the tube. They generated interesting ideas considering colour, pattern and choice of fabric. They chose and used the appropriate tools in the art package. They developed their vocabulary and were able discuss and evaluate their work with confidence in speaking and listening.

Rationale
Children were working on a Design Technology—Textiles project to design and make a customised pencil case. The project gave them the opportunity to use computer aided design with textiles to produce a quality product.

Result
The children all produced a useful pencil case based on their own computer aided design. Children developed a range of designing and making skills. The project gave the children opportunities to develop communication skills.
