Outline of the activity
On a visit to a local mosque the Year 1 children were able to observe at first hand stained glass windows displaying simple patterns. Back in the classroom the teacher asked the children to create their own designs for stained glass windows using the draw and fill tools in the Primary Colours package.
Skills Covered
The Children learnt how to use an ICT graphics package to explore and realise their ideas and to identify ways to develop and improve their work. They learnt how to select and use simple tools (pencil and fill) in their mark making, and discovered ways in which their work could be easily changed. Children learnt how to apply their skills to work in Art and Religious Education.
Rationale
Children use a computer art package to create a colourful pattern suitable for use as a stained glass window in a modern religious building. They develop their designs and modify their work as they go.
Result
The children's’ work was included in their sketchbooks and made a colourful classroom display. The children were encouraged to discuss and evaluate their own work and the work of others
