Outline of the activity
The children are using a paint program to "edit" a previously scanned photograph.
Skills Covered
The children practised clicking and dragging to draw around the photograph. They developed mouse control and familiarised themselves with the basic tools available in a paint program.
Rationale
The lesson is very easy to prepare as it only takes minimal teacher input to scan the photographs onto a floppy disc. This develops key skills, particularly mouse control, which can be transferred to many other applications.
Result
The children can be given different amounts of guidance; the class teacher can give help with specific colours, shapes or tools as she/he sees fit. The children are very fulfilled in seeing their work and it maintains interest in very young children who sometimes have difficulties in staying on task.
