Outline of the activity
Children were asked to investigate the temperatures around the school. They used external sensors to record the temperature in their chosen places around the school.

Skills Covered
Use external sensors to gather data and input information into a computer. Use the computer to measure and record. Read and understand a temperature scale. Produce charts and graphs.

Rationale
At Key Stage 2, pupils are required to be taught to use IT equipment and software to monitor external events and using sensors for this activity provided the children with this experience. They were able to compare this method of collecting data with using a thermometer.

Result
The children printed out the results of their investigations in chart and graph form. This method of collecting and displaying data was compared to using a thermometer.
