How was it used?
This resource was used as a main activity to demonstrate the rotations of different shapes and played a factor in the development of pupils’ learning, thinking and communication skills.
- The resource was inclusive in that pupils of varying ages and abilities were able to use it. The kinaesthetic and visual element of the resource also appealed to many in particular the boys.
- The activity engaged pupils and helped them to sustain attention on their learning.
- The engaging and visual demonstrations offered by the resource ensured a faster pace of lesson compared to other methods.
- Pupils listen more attentively when others were engaged with interactive whiteboard activities so that there was greater learning from their peers. They took turns more easily and they showed greater respect for others, often giving applause to celebrate each other’s success.
Impact and Outcomes
- There were opportunities for pupils to develop their thinking, communication and problem solving skills.
- Pupils were engaged and motivated to work. They enjoyed the opportunity to have a ‘hands on’ experience with the resource at the front of the class using the IWB.
- This activity had a positive effect on the more challenging boys as the more visual element of the work appealed to them. They also enjoyed the opportunity to have a go with the IWB.
- Pupils were enthusiastic and enjoyed the opportunity to be active participants in the lesson
- The visual and kinaesthetic aspect of the resource allowed pupils to sustain attention on their learning.
- The use of mini whiteboards ensured that all pupils could participate.
Learner Feedback
The resource was effective in demonstrating to pupils how to rotate shapes. The pupils found the addition of construction lines very helpful.
