Resource discovery

This area provides guidance on how NGfL Cymru resources have been used to support a range of educational foci and approaches. For each, you will find guidance, information on how to use the resource to best effect, and outcomes for both teaching and learning.

You can filter out resources based on key stage, subject or any number of foci. You can remove any of the active filters by clicking on the red cross by its name in the 'Active Filters' pane on the right. The number of resources available is indicated in brackets.

This was used as part of an agreed transition project for the whole LEA.
Pupils used mini whiteboards to give their estimates of the bearings displayed on the IWB. They then measured the angle with a protractor.
The intention of this unit was to build on the Frogs investigation available on NGfL Cymru, allowing pupils to extend their learning whilst following a familiar format.

I initially used this resource as a starter to a study of the rise of the gangsters in 1920s America.

I used the 2 star activities with my Year 2 class. I found that the units were an ideal way of encouraging the children to apply their mathematical knowledge in solving problems.

The educational goal of this project was to use a series of resources which would encourage KS3 and 4 pupils to develop their Speaking and Listening skills, whilst looking at contemporary 21st century issues, the pupils could engage with.

As a class we had visited a school camp on the coast for a week and also during that time visited a wind farm. So the focus for our work this term within literacy, DT and geography was the environment.
This unit along with the other units in the series forms the spine of the school’s scheme of work for Welsh 2nd language. Each activity has been blended with resources already available in the school.

The resource was used by a Year 5 class at the beginning of a topic about healthy living. The focus was to encourage the pupils to use the resource to discuss a healthy lifestyle.

As a starter activity to revise naming straight lines. The resource was very effective as it allowed me to quickly generate different straight lines and gave me the option of hiding the equation.
I used this activity with my Year 5 class which followed a previous lesson within this unit of work ‘The Earth’s materials – Are we wasting them?’ I found that the units were suitable for work we were developing in the class on the environment and our effects on the environment.
The resource was used by three classes in Year 5 as a revision and for some an introduction to the Welsh Alphabet. All children were second language pupils.

I found that careful selection of appropriate activities encouraged the children to focus and share their views and opinions as well as considering and empathising with the views of others.

This resource was used as it fitted into the school's maths scheme rather than science where it is on the site.
The Forces resource is really useful for teaching so many concepts pupils find difficult by using technology in an effective way.

As part of our Year 6 KS2 work in Geography, I wanted my pupils to use problem-solving and decision-making skills to address issues ‘in the news’ – in this case, the creation of wind farms to help future energy needs.

This activity consists of an interactive PowerPoint similar to the famous Odd One Out, but much richer in its developing thinking potential - the idea being that the children can choose three images out of 16, so they have a choice and it is not the teacher who has chosen three images for them!
Our Yr 10 pupils used the bilingual interactive resource on Acids and Alkali from the NGfL Cymru website to revise about the strength of acids and alkali.

The Far Away Fruit Salad’ resource was used to introduce various Healthy Eating Challenges that the pupils completed over a number of weeks.

This case study shows how close connections with RSC Wales and NGfL Cymru, who provide training sessions and resources has influenced CPD in a training organisation
This case study explains how the creation of resources for NGfL Cymru has involved a number of the construction team thereby developing teamwork, and increasing awareness to the teaching and learning opportunities offered by digital resource production and VLE delivery.
Research undertaken by NGfL-Cymru showed that there were a lack of teaching resources in the curriculum area of animal studies at level 3.
This case study shows how Tutor Tamsin Young worked in partnership with NGfL Cymru to produce the electronic resource ‘Equine Evolution’. Equine evolution was the area chosen as it is renowned for being a difficult subject, so by having fun interactive resources it could make the process a little less painful for students to remember specific dates and relevant information.

The activity looks at four different types of sentence – statements, questions, exclamations and instructions - and the punctuation used with them. It also looks at the intonation used when saying each type of sentence.

The teacher used the resource to focus the class to develop a greater understanding of the skills needed to develop a line drawing of a castle that could be used to illustrate a fact file about a Castle that they had studied in class.

The resource was used with a class of 24 Year 6 pupils from a non-welsh speaking background, to complement the school scheme and the Unit of work based on the Gwyliau George television series.

Used as an introduction and a revision activity before a practical session in a kitchen environment. Learners had access to computers in a theory lesson to identify potential hazards when handling and storing food.
