British Food Fortnight : 18 September to 3 October 2010

All schools in the UK are invited to teach children how to prepare simple meals using the best of Britain's in-season produce as part of the national food celebrations and to enter British Food Fortnight's School Challenge.

This year's Challenge for Pre and Primary school children is to design the ultimate school smoothie and is being judged by children's TV presenter, Michaela Strachan.  Every school entering the competition will receive a FREE Tractor Ted Goes Milking DVD with teacher notes worth £12.99 - a real life film showing where milk comes from.  The winning school will receive the full Tractor Ted DVD , book & toy collection worth £250 and a visit to their school from Tractor Ted and his little Activity Shed.

The Challenge for Secondary schools is inspired by the Hairy Bikers' recent 'Mums Know Best' television programme.  Design and cook a meal based on recipes that would have been used in your school's part of the country by previous generations!  The winning school will be invited to come to London to cook their chosen meal for HRH The Duchess of Cornwall and the Hairy Bikers!

Competition details and entry form are on http://lovebritishfood.co.uk/blogcategory/teachers-take-part/. The site also offers FREE guides to organising food and cookery activities in schools with over 100 inspiring case studies of how schools have taken part in British Food Fortnight in previous years, plus lots of other classroom resources and details of organisations representing 9,000 chefs who can come to your school and help you teach children how to cook.
