Proposal 2008-09
- We are funding a Learning Coach for 2.5 days per week to work with KS4 LAC.
- Groupwork is to be arranged for 14-16 year old LAC young people to develop other skills outside of the classroom using local providers and organisations.
- We are also funding for a “Counsellor” post (Official title yet to be decided) for 1 day per week to work with individual children/ schools and carers on issues relating to Attachment, Trauma and Loss within schools. Helping schools with the tools to deal with these issues and therefore promote inclusion, better outcomes and continuity in education.
Summary of Proposal
- Employment of part-time Project Worker / Learning Coach for 3 days per week to work with LAC in yrs 10-11.
- Act as link between all partners to ensure individual education packages are being completed.
- Work with partners to ensure higher rate of attendance and positive inclusion in the educational setting. Put in place a route into post-16 education for all 15½ yr old LACs.
- Use a small proportion of the resources for extra support depending on individual needs of yrs 10-11.
Summary of Activities to July 2007
- Learning Coach employed who is:
- in daily contact with team supporting LAC
- supporting Foster Carers
- Coaching examination work e.g. advising with coursework and revision techniques
- Providing guidance such as building a CV
- Group music project resulting in the production of a CD
- Presentation evening in the Council Chambers
- Purchase and subsequent introduction of PASS as a monitoring tool
Impact:
- Young people accessing Learning Coach voluntarily
- Fewer exclusions
- Reduction in % NEETS
