Picture Story

Outline of the activity
Children write a piece of text substituting chosen words for Clip Art or with own drawings. The text then becomes a picture story where the reader interprets the picture with his/her own word/meaning.

Skills Covered
Inserting ClipArt or own drawings from a paint to a word processing package. Print out work. Children use text and picture to communicate meaning.

Rationale
The children were asked to write an account of a visit and inserting pictures makes the task much more interesting instead of just writing text. The pictures add to the attractiveness of the work and i.e. involves the children in greater thought as to what they want to convey.

Result
Children’s work was displayed for all to read interpreting the pictures with their own meaning.
