The little yellow chicken

Outline of the activity
This activity was a part of a series of literacy lessons.  The children had had the story of the Little Yellow Chicken read to them and they conducted a series of activities related to it. These included the computer activity detailed here, painting and drawing work and some construction.

Skills Covered
The children were using Tinydraw but any simple painting program would suffice. The children were using the mouse skills  - double click, dragging and dropping, and they explore the painting tools such as fill and erase. Some of the more advanced pictures use different colour and size lines. File saving and loading were not used in this instance.

Rationale
To support the children in their literacy work. To extend the children’s interest in the characters of their literacy topic. To develop the skills of mouse control.

Result
The children followed up their literacy activities with a range of these activities – drawing characters from the book and also drawing themselves. The IT related activities mirror the learning activities and support the children’s interest in the book and the characters they were exposed to.
