Sequencing - making cakes
Outline of the activity
Children make cakes following a set number of stages. At each stage a photograph is taken by the children and using the computer, their photographs are entered and text is added. These are then printed out and made into a book and cards.
Skills Covered
Children follow a sequence of written tasks to make their cakes. They use the digital camera to take photographs inserting them onto the computer with help and adding appropriate text. They use the cards they make as a sequencing exercise for literacy.
Rationale
This task requires children to give and follow instructions to make their cakes. They learn how to sequence instructions so that others can follow them. The children learn how a digital camera can be used to produce the finished products.
Result
A recipe book is made for the children to read and they ‘play’ with the cards sorting them into the correct order as a sequencing task for English.
