Posters, Identity badges and Calling cards
Outline of the activity
The children in Year 5 were asked to make some Posters and Identity Badges for the visitors and staff to wear around School during the launch of their Computer Suite. After producing these, they made their own Identity Badge and a calling card for themselves.
Skills Covered
The children looked at the language needed for Posters, Identity Badges and Calling Cards and attractiveness of items. They used the computer to change font style, size and colour, aligning text, copy and paste and importing ClipArt. The children saved and printed their work.
Rationale
The forthcoming visit by important guests for the launch of a new computer suite, provided the stimulus for the Poster making and Identity Badges and this led to discussions on the use of Calling Cards. Making the Posters, Identity Badges and the Calling Cards involved the children in applying many of the skills they had learned on the computer in previous lessons whilst differentiating between the different uses and appropriateness of language.
Result
The Staff and visitors wore their Identity Badges and the children wore theirs for ease of recognition. The children’s calling cards were laminated for them to distribute to their friends and families.
