Native Americans

Main foci: Literacy Skills,
Secondary foci: Inclusive, DTaAfL,

How was it used?

This unit focused on a thematic approach  to the curriculum and enabled me to introduce and/or enhance the varying skills now contained in the revised National Curriculum for Wales.

My aim was to help pupils acquire transferable skills as well as knowledge across the range of subjects contained in this unit. In addition, pupils enjoyed the interactive nature of the unit in terms of the use of an interactive whiteboard and the group participation.

Impact and Outcomes

The project has benefited the learners in my classes by getting them more involved with their own learning, becoming more enthusiastic researchers.

Children’s oracy skills are improving because of paired and group discussions. They are able to give reasons for things more readily than before. They also show an understanding of deeper more important issues.

Lesson Learnt

Allowing children to share their ideas as a group leads for a deeper understanding of a topic.
