Let’s Look at Fruit Monsters

Main foci: Curriculum Cymreig,
Secondary foci: Numeracy Skills, Literacy Skills,

How was it used?

The resource was used during a topic of food and shopping and the introduction about fruit and observational drawing fitted perfectly with this theme.

As the resource moved on to look at sketches from Mexico the children began to explore Mexican foods and tastes and as Alison Mercer is a Welsh artist they looked at some of the traditional Welsh foods.

Impact and Outcomes

The pupils gained an understanding of the Welsh artist Alison Mercer and also about the different culture of Mexico.

They compared the work of Alison Mercer with other artists – Van Gogh’s still life work and the work of Paul Gauguin thereby developing understanding of the different styles and techniques that artists use.

Learner Feedback

“I loved making patterns on the floor with sugar cubes”

“The wax pictures were like magic”

“I don’t like spicy food”

Lesson Learnt

This resource is an excellent stimulus for other work.  I will definitely use the other art resources from the ‘Let’s Look’ video set.
